It has been a full Summer and Fall photographing events, weddings and schools, but I haven't forgotten about my normal portrait clients!! Families photos on the beach still have a special place in my heart. I photographed Angie and Mike's "suprise wedding" on the beach in Bandon last Summer, and they recently came back to capture their family again. Bandon Oregon certainly draws you in, and back for more! I love little Benjamin, he has NO fear! And, I bet you can figure out from the photos where he got that adventurous streak... and his hair? So jealous... Thanks to the whole family for making your family portraits an annual tradition. Can't wait to see you again next year!!
One of the types of shoots I am often asked to do is photograph golfers at Bandon Dunes. I love a great day outside, walking the (6 MILE!) course and getting to know a group of guys who consider Bandon Dunes Golf Course to be their Golfing Mecca.
There are a lot of reasons people hire me to shoot their round. For most it's a once in a lifetime trip. Bandon Dunes is world renowned, and it's no easy task to get here! From the East Coast it's easier to get to Scotland than Bandon! :) But once you arrive this place pulls you in and wins you over. Many of these golfers do travel the world for the sport. Playing rounds from Scotland to Pebble Beach to Bandon, and never actually take any photos of their round! It's a lot to think about, the courses are tough and require a lot of concentration, photos take a back seat to a low score. I take the job of documenting their adventure seriously. I take photos of the tee shots, the putt planning, the reactions to the thrill of victory as well as the agony of defeat. Details like the yardage markers, bags set up over the sweeping vistas, and their drinks of choice for the round. I love the walk and the camaraderie, it's truly a special event for me as well.
This group of guys was from Chicago, North Dakota and Indiana and had the round of their lives. It was a pleasure to be a part of it! With 18 holes, 12 golfers and two photographers, this is but a very tiny taste of the images we captured! You can check out a few more >>>HERE<<<
Golf Documentary Photography is definitely an adventure! If a round at Bandon Dunes is on your bucket list, please contact me to document it for you. It's a trip you'll never want to forget! angela @ cardasphotography. com

One of my favorite things about photographing people is documenting the big moments, high school graduation, engagement, wedding, maternity, newborn and baby milestones. From the very first newborn session I look forward to the 1st birthday session. I love love love watching baby discover the cake and frosting for the first time, realize it's just for them and then DIG IN! Some are more careful, some throw their whole selves into that cake, it's all about their personality, and I adore documenting it.
If you are as big a fan of Instagram as I am - then you will LOVE this!! (Full disclaimer - I don't benefit from this post, I was a beta tester for the process last year, now I'm just a happy customer!)
I am a firm believer in the power of a printed photograph. Of course I LOVE sharing my clients photos on my Facebook page, and I LOVE posting my slices of life to Instagram, and occasionally I even update this blog! lol
But how long will these websites be around? Remember MySpace? Geocities? Friendster? The internet is a fickle thing, as is the digital file. Computer crashes, viruses, and plain ol' human error have deleted many a family memory. But a book is different. It's real. It's substantial, it's just special. It's always there, even if the power is out, or you've gotten a new computer, or your internet is down.
I know - life is busy and frankly, digital photography has made capturing images overwhelming. It used to be that we just dropped a roll of film in an envelope and 24-36 shiny prints would come back about a week later. Now instead of 36 images from our kid's birthday party, we have 456. Instead of 60-75 from our wedding, we have 1250. We also feel the need to make them them better after we take them, sharper, more vivid, whatever, just adding more work to an overwhelming task. So it doesn't get done. Weeks, months, years go by and the photos just keep piling up, taunting you with their un-done-ness... adding to the guilt is the pressure that they could disappear from your computer or phone at any time, when was the last time you backed them up?
I know. It's hard. But this is easy. Connect your Instagram account to Bookto.me, choose once a month, or once every three months, and that's it. They'll take all your Instagram photos and assemble them in a hard bound book and mail it to you, every time, with zero work on your part. Just keep taking pictures of your life. Don't want a photo included in the book? No problem, just use hashtag #nobtm and it's out.
As you can see - I'm a fan.
And that's it - I love it, I don't worry about Instagram going out of business, I don't worry about my phone suddenly wiping clean of all my photos. I have what I love in REAL LIFE! I know - what a concept huh?!
AND - because Booksto.Me is SO cool - they gave me a code to share!!
If there is one thing I LOVE shooting (besides Weddings of course) is Families. I know that this is such a hectic time in our lives, and we don't always feel like we look our very best after keeping all these little creatures alive and fed, but the time goes by SO quickly, and the next thing you know, they're moved out and on to starting their own families. If you are inspired this Summer to take that next step, and capture your family (in whatever combination that it may be right this minute), then give me a call and let's get it done!
